The appeal of Ruscha’s photography is counter intuitive. They are very basic pictures, presented well. It’s as if Ruscha is staking his artistic credibility on them being his pictures. The fact that they are “Ruscha’s” is sufficient to guarantee their significance.
So my task is to photograph building sites, because they are ubiquitous, like gas stations. They are photographed without frills. Just drive up, no more than three shots, minimal processing.
Although the pictures are not presented in a book, they are all optimized for 1×1 format, so could be presented in an Instagram account.
