The coast is in the frontline of the climate crisis. Changes in sea level and the relentless activity of the waves have always rearranged the coast. But in the Anthropocene Era, those changes will be rapid and devastating.
These pictures are a meditation on the coast of South East England, how it will change and what we are about to lose.
When people appear in these pictures, they are small parts of the composition. As I progress this project, I intend to give the people greater prominence. I will be seeking to move beyond an examination of the physical coastline, to address what the climate crisis will mean to people who live there.
Other threads of research will be: how did the climate crisis come about, and what is being done about it.
